Meet D3

April 16, 2015

Last weekend it was time for me to finally “Meet D3.” It’s not the name of some kinda R2D2-like robot, but the special pop up event held by Design Days District. It is specifically commissioned and curated to feature a 100 strong creative mix of UAE-based, regional and international designers, artists, musicians, concept retailers and unique dining experiences. Excitement about the mysterious occasion had been buzzing around for a while amongst the creative community but not many knew EXACTLY what to expect. Something arty? Something chic? Is it more of an urban, underground crowd or aimed at eccentric fashionistas? I […]

TOY brunch at China Grill

March 28, 2015

Now, I’ve blogged before about restaurants that are chilled out, relaxing and appropriate for families. Allow me to introduce to you a brunch that is on the other side of the spectrum. TOY brunch at China Grill is kind of a big deal. Currently in Miami and New York, it’s targeted for “adults who want to play.” It is indeed excitement all the way and it creates a phenomenon that I like to coin as “brunch jet lag.” This is because even on a lazy, uneventful Friday afternoon in Dubai, this place has got such an electric, cyber, cosplay-chic buzz, […]

Design Days Dubai 2015

March 23, 2015

I usually hate furniture shopping, especially Ikea. (although maybe that’s just ’cause of the bratty annoying children always running riot in there.) Design Days however is different. it explores the fine line between design and art and merging the latter with function. In order to get the most out of it, I have to say , it’s no fun just being just a spectator. It’s best to enter with an insatiable amount of curiosity. Seriously, just skip around the fair asking designers “what’s this, what’s this?” just like in the song from Tim Burton’s “Nightmare Before Christmas.” It’s really a […]

Fashion Week Illustrations 2015

March 17, 2015

Fashion Week started a little over a month ago and as usual I was in drool mode, lasciviously eyeing up the couture. My favorite this year was of course Elie Saab and Zuhair Murad but anyone who knows me understands that that’s an obvious give in! Those designers are like parfait … I mean, do you honestly know ANYONE who said NO to parfait ?!?!?! (yes, I’m quoting the donkey from Shrek. Sue me.) A few other noteworthy collections that caught my eye were Stephane Rolland (just loved the billowing clouds of fabric and theatrical shapes! So dreamy) Badgley Mischka, […]

GAP event by Stylist Arabia

March 11, 2015

On the 4th of March, Stylist Arabia hosted a super fun event with GAP where shoppers had the option of customizing their own jeans. We are talkin’ rips, monograms, jewels, studs, appliques, buttons – you name it …the sky was the limit! You could also take your kids along and make hairbands and tiaras…or… just make a tiara for yourself because…why not? Even though I practically live in jeans…I normally HATE shopping for them. For me, it’s a denim dilemma – they either tend to fit really well on my legs but tight on my hips OR really well on […]

Othello: The Remix

March 5, 2015

With art/fashion week coming up in March, I found myself craving something different. Something cultural – BUT with a twist. Then I came across the latest production at DUCTAC’s Centerpoint Theatre – Othello: The Remix. The interesting thing about this play was that there was only one performance showing to the public on the 1st March. I must admit, the exclusivity of it all intrigued me like a moth to a flame! Othello: The Remix is a critically acclaimed performance produced by a Chicago based company called The Q Brothers as well as Shakespeare Theater Company all the way from […]
