Last week I felt just like Holly Golightly, except I wasn’t having breakfast at Tiffany’s but brunch with Swarovski.
It was for a first-of-its-kind Sparkling Couture exhibition, celebrating the brand’s long-standing relationship with regional and international couture designers.
The event showcased exquisite collections by 35 couturiers and six jewelry and accessory labels from across the Middle East and South Asia. Each designer presented one piece, created exclusively for the event, highlighting their innovative use of Swarovski crystals.
First, the press were guided into a large room with a lit up installation consisting of a selection of sparkling designer dresses. I have a confession to make – since I saw nothing else, I thought that this WAS the entire exhibition. Doh…How wrong was I!!! ACTUALLY, I arrived JUST in time for the grand, dramatic unveiling …
Large, sheer curtains were lifted to reveal an enormous hall filled decadent, innovative creations that glimmered artistically in the dark. Rows upon rows of Bridal wear, Ethnic wear, Evening wear and Modest wear, as well as tones of statement jewelry and crystal encrusted heels that would make Cinderella jealous.
I really enjoyed spending the afternoon Ooohing and Aaahing as I wandered through the room in awe, sipping on my cappuccino. The exhibition was fabulous and there was just SO much to see. It reminded me of the amazing ballgown exhibitions at the V & A in London.
When I got home, I was so filled with inspiration that I sketched my favorite designs from the event.
For my outfit of the day, I decided to go with the theme and wear a sequined slouchy sweater with my favorite metallic heels. After all, sparkles shouldn’t be solely reserved for the evening!
When in doubt, just add glitter …!
