Fashion Illustrator Hatty Pedder

December 13, 2013

Ok, I have to confess … I have a crush. An “art crush” that is, on Dubai based illustrator Hatty Pedder. British born Hatty had studied in the UK at Central St Martins in London. She has exhibited her illustrations in numerous international locations such as Frankfurt and Mumbai, as well as working on a myriad of illustrated projects and commissions in Dubai as well. When I first came across her illustrated column “Caricouture” in Time Out magazine, the first thing that struck me most about her work was her amazing confidence in lines. A sense of chic simplicity is […]

Ruben Sanchez and eL Seed at The Archive

December 7, 2013

Don’t you just love that feeling when you discover a great new place hidden away in some corner of Dubai? That’s exactly how I felt this weekend when I came across The Archive for the first time. It is a community space located at gate 5 in Safa Park and it’s a library, cafe and art center all in one. The Archive focuses on the arts and culture of the MENA region and frequently holds workshops and seminars on the topics of art, illustration, murals and all things related. Funnily enough, The Archive has been around for 8 years already […]

S*uce Micaroon Launch

December 5, 2013

I’m sure you’ve all heard the old fridge magnet phrase which goes something like “I’ve never met a chocolate I didn’t like.” Well … chocolates are okay, but I definitely have never “met” a S*uce party I didn’t like. For instance, the S*uce in the Hood launch a couple of weeks ago was youthful, entertaining and an all round riot. (the good kind!) I really enjoyed the music, watching the break dancers’ smooth moves and not to mention sinking my teeth into the crisp cinnamon crunchyness of a perfectly baked churro. Ah .. magnifico! I was truly stoked about this […]

My London Fashion Week Project

December 2, 2013

As an artist, it’s very tempting to become anti-social. You know what I mean – you lock yourself up in your studio and furiously paint for days, virtually going into “hermit mode.” I’ve done this myself, but besides lending a little bit of a stuffy air and added eccentricity to your reputation, the truth of the matter is being anti-social does nothing for you. It is my opinion that it is far more enriching to go out there and get to know other artists/designers, collaborate and share your experiences. The best part about uploading your work and blogging about it […]

Abu Dhabi Art Fair

November 27, 2013

What a dilemma I had this weekend! On Saturday I had the choice of either going to Abu Dhabi for the last day of the art fair OR attending Al Quoz for QuozHappens. They were both happening on the same day! (Curses!!) ‘Twas a tough decision which I mulled over for quite some time. In the end I decided to see the Abu Dhabi Art Fair simply because I had never seen it before and quite frankly, I was extremely curious! So after a loooong and perplexing drive I finally made it to Saadiyat Island. Luckily, I had just missed […]

Art Nights at DIFC – November

November 11, 2013

If you are an art fanatic like me, the idea of waiting all year for Art Dubai to arrive to get your art fix can be disheartening and tedious. Cue …ART NIGHTS! Various “art nights” are held at Dubai’s art hubs, DIFC and Al Serkhal, particularly in the winter. This is where the galleries sync up for an evening and show their latest pieces to the public accompanied with some great little snacks and scintillating live music. They frequently hire live artists to lend some youthful energy to the night. There’s nothing quite like being amongst the exciting buzz and […]
