Summer nights in Prague

September 19, 2014

A famous quote states that travel is the only thing that you can buy which will make you richer. I couldn’t agree more. By the end of our two week trip, we were literally digging deep into our pockets to fish out whatever leftover change we had to buy ONE LAST precious pretzel at Munich airport. Quite literally broke but nonetheless fulfilled, replenished and “richer” from the sights we saw on our amazing Eastern Europe trip. Our plan was to start off in Prague, followed by Vienna, Budapest Salzburg and finally Munich. After we freshened up, we went to the […]

Quentin Blake’s work at the House of Illustration

September 2, 2014

As I mentioned before in previous posts, I’ve always been an ardent fan of Roald Dahl books and, of course, Quentin Blake’s fabulous illustrations. They’re so detailed and atmospheric yet scribbly and impulsive. I always wondered how he manages to NAIL that quintessential balanced look every time. I had heard about the opening of “The House of Illustration” about a month ago. It’s inaugural exhibition is called “Inside Stories,” a landmark show by none other than Monsieur Blake himself. Whilst visiting London for my Summer break, I was hellbent on visiting this one by hook or by crook. I imagined […]

This upscale women’s clothing boutique features glamorous ready-to-wear designer and haute couture contemporary clothing as well as chic accessories. Introducing Lady Jean

August 17, 2014

Mad Men makes me drool …. but not for Don Draper! I’m more interested in Betty Draper’s impeccable wardrobe. If I had the option, I would live in those ultra feminine voluminous skirts that nip in so flatteringly at the waist. Well, guess what? Now, I DO have that option thanks to American/Lebanese designer Diana Shehady. She is releasing her new collection this season under her very own label, Lady Jean. Glancing through all the raves on her instagram photos, the comments speak for themselves! The skirts are, indeed, very popular! Expect lots of poodle skirts, ruffles, pencil skirts, Bardot […]

Ahlan Art Gallery Exhibition

August 10, 2014

Ramadan is an auspicious time of the year for all Muslims to keep their morals in check and spend quality time with their loved ones. In the spirit of all this serenity, it only seemed fitting to visit the “Downtown Ramadan” art exhibition at the Emaar Pavilion which celebrated Islamic culture and highlighted Arabian heritage. It was curated by London based Ahlan Art gallery. The artists were from all over the world and interpreted spirituality wonderfully with their varied artistic prowess. The venue was very “Arabian Nights” with its plush, opulent decor. Perfect for iftar nights. As I browsed through […]

Interview with Reema Motib

July 22, 2014

I was skimming through my Instagram in bed one night at an unearthly hour and came across a terrific new illustrator from Saudi Arabia. It literally made me sit up and take notice! The very talented Reema Motib is only 19 years old and a business student but has already started making waves in the Saudi art community. She’s done various commissioned illustrations for well known Saudi designers such as Razzan Alazzouni and Reem Al Khanna. What caught my eye is her unique style. They’re whimsical, light and childlike yet they maintain a melancholy sophistication. Her inspirations are derived from […]
