November News

I’ve been very off the radar for a while and there have been a lottttttttt of live drawing gigs I have done lately so I thought I’d combine everything into one blog post and briefly go through some of them!

First up – United Colors of Benetton.

I was asked to draw live illustrations for customers as part of Vogue Fashion Experience at Dubai Mall. It was really interesting as I got to actually sit in the store window and draw, so it was a real goldfish experience as people would glance in and stare at me working!

For this event, I ended up drawing a lot of women in abayas, so to make it interesting I added a new twist by including glitter glue in my work. I think they really liked it and I’m definitely going to be doing this again! Everyone likes a bit of sparkle!

For DIFC art nights, I collaborated with Rira Gallery. They specialise in promoting Iranian artists. It’s a really wonderful space with some amazing contemporary artists on display. For this gig, I decided to do a large mural that captured the elegant hubub spirit of DIFC art nights. Chic, well dressed men and women. Canapes. You get the picture. If you’ve been to DIFC Art Nights you’ll know exactly what I mean.

Here’s how the final piece turned out!

Etoile La Boutique had re-launched their store at Mall of Emirates and asked me to do some customised illustrations for the event. As well as this, I painted a special illustrated menu for their mocktails that would be served during the evening. It looked really amazing with the billowing clouds of dry ice surrounding the illustrations at the bar.

They also wanted me to wear a couple of outfits from their collection at the event. Everyone knows how much I adore fashion so this was the cherry on the top for me!! I wore a floral beige and black dress for the first half of the event, and during the second half I wore a gorgeous black Alaia dress! It was such a (nerve wracking) thrill to be painting in a dress worth at least 13,000 AED! (over 3,500 US dollars)

I loved this idea of combining fashion and art and would really be interested in doing it again!

Last but not least, I got to meet one of my faaaavorite fashion illustrators Megan Hess. She’s an international fashion illustrator who works with some of the most prestigious fashion designers and luxury brands around the world, such as Chanel, Dior, Cartier, Montblanc and Tiffany and Co. I wanna be like her when I “grow up” … except the Dubai version!!! What I like about her work is the way she uses the art of illustration to advertise absolutely everything and anything in the most luxurious way possible attracting the most exclusive brands.

I’ve been following her work for years and one day on her Facebook page she mentioned she was stopping in Dubai for an event. I didn’t even know much about the event, I just knew I HAD to meet her so I pretty much gate crashed.

The event was lovely, and i bought her new illustrated book and she signed it, which was incredible. I also got to speak with her for quite some time about illustration and art and I was rather star struck!!!
