A few months ago, I was lazing around in my pyjamas at a time of day that was SO late in the afternoon, that I’m embarrassed to even specify when! I was at home channel surfing, eating spaghetti hoops and just generally having a chilled out, uneventful day when the doorbell rang. I opened it and to my astonishment, I was greeted by a glamorous, statuesque looking woman in a ball gown and dapper man in a tuxedo. It sounds like one of those bizarre dreams in which random, surreal things happen that make no sense … BUT it wasn’t . They informed me that I had been selected for Maserati and Ermenegildo Zegna ‘s one of 100 creatives from around the WORLD and I was to be featured in a limited edition coffee table book!!!!!
The book celebrates the partnership of the two leading names of handcrafted Italian design through collaborating with talents who use their hands in creating excellence. The project emphasizes artisanship, innovation and creativity.
The Maserati Quattroporte Limited Edition by Ermenegildo Zegna has produced a limited run of 100 sedans. Clients also benefit from a unique collection of accessories by Zegna, specially designed for each Maserati.
But wait – That is not ALL!!!!! In addition to being selected, I was to be photographed by world renowned Italian talent Fabrizio Ferri for a special photo shoot at the Four Seasons Resort. The celebrity photographer has worked with celebrities such as Beyonce, Cindy Crawford, Sophia Loren, Julia Roberts and many more legends.
To top this whole experience off – after the shoot, I was invited to an amazing, super duper luxurious cocktail party !
On the day of the shoot, I got pampered and preened by the talented make up artists from Bareface. All the photos were beautiful, dramatic, black and white portraits so the make up artist painted my lips a gorgeous, deep plum so it shows up on camera. (We don’t all have Jolie pumpworthly lips, so I needed to befriend my lipliner!)
The shoot was amazing! Fabrizio covered my outfit with a black cloth so the emphasis was solely on my face. He kept telling me to aim my chin up …up and up and he zoomed in and took picture after picture with an artistic flair! He also took a few shots of my hands, so I was really glad I opted for a shellac a few days ago!
The cocktail party was a grand affair and for the full Cinderella effect, I had my own fashionable, fairy godmother in the form of Pakistani couture designer Amira Haroon who dressed me for the evening. It’s not every day that I get invited to a Maserati cocktail party, so I decided to pull out all the stops and wear a gold, voluminous skirt that I fell in love with at her atelier. Given my heritage, I felt really proud to rock a Pakistani designer at the event. My style is normally very 50s pin up and vintage, so I took a bit of a risk and went with something more modern and edgier than I’m used to. The gold shimmery effect made me feel very Gossip Girl and I loved it!
I didn’t have a prince charming per se with me, but I took my best friend and my sister who as luck would have it, ARE rather charming and kept me entertained all night so I couldn’t ask for better a date!
It was such an honor to be included in this wonderful collaboration, representing art in the region amongst some incredible talents. I got a little taster of a day in the life of a hand model! If you ever come across this book , do keep an eye out for my hand!
As you can see, it’s looking A-OK in the spotlight.
