Mad Men makes me drool …. but not for Don Draper!
I’m more interested in Betty Draper’s impeccable wardrobe. If I had the option, I would live in those ultra feminine voluminous skirts that nip in so flatteringly at the waist.
Well, guess what?
Now, I DO have that option thanks to American/Lebanese designer Diana Shehady. She is releasing her new collection this season under her very own label, Lady Jean. Glancing through all the raves on her instagram photos, the comments speak for themselves! The skirts are, indeed, very popular! Expect lots of poodle skirts, ruffles, pencil skirts, Bardot necklines and plenty of wiggle dresses!
What I really like about her designs is while they take inspiration from the 50s, she’s given them a fresh, contemporary, Eastern twist with her Islamic art inspired prints. This eye catching clash of two very different civilisations creates something very unique that I’ve never seen before. They definitely make a statement.
Aside from geometric prints, her collection also features some very covetable arty digital prints, and block coloured ensembles in contrasting piping. The lengths are customised according to clients’ preferences, so the floor length ones are very hijaab friendly too!
There’s so much versatility in terms of HOW you can style the skirts.
For instance, you can opt for classic and girly by complementing them with a plain fitted top like I did …
OR for a more youthful and edgier look, you can mix textures like denim and add converse shoes like this model.
Even though we might not have been born with a svelte, statuesque figure like Betty Draper, we can certainly give her a run for her money in one of THESE babies!!!
Lady Jean is available in Sauce, Ush and Beyou boutiques in Dubai and its also available in other GCC countries and Lebanon.
