Let’s face it. Scrolling down your Facebook feed and constantly seeing people coupled up and blissful can be a lonely experience when you are single. Particularly during the holidays.
Craving a bit of romance, I was inspired to take myself on a “date” one beautiful and sunny afternoon. The weather in Dubai is GORGEOUS right now so I thought I’d make the most of it! After all, why should beautiful venues be reserved solely for a date with a man?!
I made a reservation on a whim to a place I’ve always wanted to spend time but never seemed to have the time to go; Anantara beach resort at the Palm.
I dressed up in something brand spanking new – it’s actually a floor length green chiffon kaftan with arty collages and mosaics printed all over it. Very theatrical! I paired it up with a big ol’ floppy hat for even MORE drama! With a wide brimmed hat perched onto your head, you always look like a lead character with a story to tell. As Oscar Wild says “One can either be a work of art …or WEAR a work of art.”
I got there around 3pm and was stunned by the breathtaking view. It really does feel like you’ve stepped straight into Siam. Seriously, it was so authentically oriental, I half expected Yul Byrnner to come prancing in there any moment with Deborah Kerr … ETCETERA ETCETERA …
For lunch I indulged in a carby, comforting linguini dish with lotsa meat and mushrooms.
I’m not gonna lie, the food was … pretty mediocre and nothing to write home about BUT the saving grace was the atmosphere which was truly out of this world so it really is worth paying a visit – just stick to mocktails, instead! I decided to get lost in a little illustration and sat there for hours until dark.
Here’s what I came up with that afternoon …
I’ve been illustrating on location quite a bit now, and I really like the way it makes me feel!!! I like being outside in the fresh air amongst a crowd with a comforting hubbub of chatter in the background. I’m planning on doing this throughout Winter! Here’s something I did in Starbucks a week ago …
This weather will be all over in the blink of an eye and our sunglasses will be back to fogging up in the humidity.
I urge you to make the MOST of the weather and incorporate a scenic trip or two into your own agenda!!!
