Hello out there art aficionados!!!
This is my first blog post on illustrations and this week I decided to illustrate what’s on the catwalk in Paris. I have been keeping my eye on the collections during Fashion Week, and so far my favorite show had to be the Dior show.
It was all about femme fatale 1950′s glamour, with alluring silhouettes cinched at the waist, prom style full skirts to floor sweeping evening gowns.
The fabrics were sheer and diaphanous tone-on-tone shades of grey, soft black with nude that gave an element of sensuality and mystery. Transparent layers were piled up on each other in a billowing-cloud like fashion with slashing in strategic places deliberately exposing the construction underneath glimpsing through.
This collection was all about femininity with ruffles, pleats and floral embroidery. The aspect I liked best was definitely the attention to surface embellishment which were subtle sprinklings of encrusted fine delicate beadwork broken by unexpected wispy ostrich feathers.
I fell in love with the whole look and it epitomizes that whole Grace Kelly I-enjoy-being-a-girl era. I’m digging it!!!! I used watercolors to mimic the feeling opacity prevalent in the collection.
