There were a lot of interesting new developments at Season 5 Fashion Forward this year. Brand new designers from all over the region showcased their collections on the runway, lending an unexpected element of freshness to the crowd. I really liked how The Garden in particular included more garments and accessories.
Here’s a Garden highlight: I had my eye on these vibrant colorful pieces by Mina Siddique.
Basically, if a cape and a kaftan got together and reproduced, these floaty pieces would be the babies. They’re light with a colorful, interesting silhouette that makes the fabric billow through the air like an artistic butterfly. wheee !!! Really funky stuff. I liked her accessories too.
Ezra’s collection was probably my favorite this year. I liked the pairing of delicate ballerina like pastel hues with melodramatic floor sweeping gowns. The beadwork was subtle, cut out appliques and minimal so the focus was on the full on fabulousness!!!
Amato’s collection was dramatic, sumptuous and just a little bit macabre! It reminded me a bit of Hitchcock’s birds. I really liked the unexpected introduction of of denim corsets in couture as well as the use of bleached, shaded fabrics. It actually worked really well! The costumes and make up looked as spectacular as something from a movie set. Tim Burton-ish. Take a look for yourself! The Red Queen reminded me of the latest Alice and Wonderland remake!
I really enjoyed the Maral show. Especially the layers of decadent black tulle over deep rich reds and delicate beadwork that glimmered. I loved the copious amount of floral ruffled appliques present too and the delicate champagne gowns. In contrast to this, the strong, statementy black and gold ones were gorgeous too!
Lastly, Jean Louis Sabajji’s pieces continued to blossom in more ways than one …
And as always, here are some of my favorite looks illustrated from this season.
Fashion Forward, wouldn’t be the same without street style!!! Everyone always looks amazingly well dressed and it’s great inspiration for me! Here’s a few illustrations I did this year that were inspired by the looks I saw loitering around prettily!! Perhaps you can even spot yourself in my doodles???
