Emirates Woman of the Year Awards

Being nominated for an Emirates Woman of the Year was definitely on my “boss lady” bucket list, so you can imagine how thrilled I was when my wish came true! For my international readers, Emirates Woman is the region’s leading women’s fashion and lifestyle magazine. It delivers articles on high-end fashion and beauty as well as detailed features on global and local issues. Every year the magazine have an awards ceremony to honor the best artists, visionaries, achievers, humanitarians and young talent in the region. I was nominated under artists and got to participate in an awesome photoshoot.

I pondered over what to wear for the photoshoot. I thought I would turn the experience into an artistic brief for myself, so I customised a unique, hand painted watercolor dress. I’m not big on flowers so I went for a quirky, Eastern koi fish design. Here’s how it turned out step by step …

This is how my photo turned out. I really loved the way the photographer captured the flowy movement of the dress and the fish design really came alive!

The Emirates Woman of the Year awards has a black tie dress code, and of course I LOVE dressing up!

A few months ago, I was working on an illustration project for regional designer Terisita Orillac and I ended up falling in LOVE with her designs. I was just crazy about the colors, patterns and dramatic silhouette and so I got in touch with her and she very kindly dressed me for my big night.

It was love at first sight when I put this masterpiece on – it’s dramatic and arty yet feminine. It ticked all the right boxes…plus it made me feel like a mermaid and who DOESN’T want that?

My husband Salman was total arm candy dressed to the 9s in his dapper Sacoor suit. He’s a sexy thing isn’t he? Rawr.

Here’s the sketch I did of the design I loved and just for fun, I imitated the same pose. Who wore it best? My drawing or me?

Unfortunately for me, I didn’t win. The award was given to Layla Kardan, a multi-talented songwriter and singer from Dubai. I did, however get to cheer myself with some major bling!!! I got to try on a diamond swan bracelet from the sponsor 55fifty7 and they had a really cool booth to take photos in.

Oh well! Better luck next time – you win some you lose some…BUT if you’re having fun you never lose! Thank you everyone, for voting for me and a special thanks to Teresita and Emirates Woman. It was a fabulous night indeed!
